Noise-canceling headphones: when do you need them?

Noise-canceling headphones: when do you need them?
Many are familiar with the situation: in everyday life you are annoyed by the booming train or bus, crowds of people drown out every conversation and then the construction site noise. For many, the solution is very simple: headphones on, music on, world off! But the outside noise is still annoying and you have to set the maximum volume to be able to enjoy the music to some extent. However, this is no longer a relief for the ears, on the contrary!

Many headphones are already built so that they can somewhat isolate the sound. But if you really want to have peace (be it with or without music), you can rely on noise canceling.
Difference between noise isolating and noise canceling headphones
Noise-isolating headphones
In order to eliminate all of the noise sources mentioned above, there is the option of using noise-isolating headphones. However, this term should not be confused with noise canceling. Noise-isolating headphonesare passive noise-canceling. This means that the ambient sound is only isolated due to the design of the headphones. No additional noise canceling technology is installed. This category mostly includes over-ear headphones that only surround the entire ear and thus (largely) isolate external noise, such as the Teufel Massive.

But also custom-made or at least very well-fitting in-ear headphones, such as the Move BT, can dampen the outside noise somewhat and thus ensure quiet music enjoyment.
When talking about Active Noise Canceling (ANC), there is always built-in noise canceling technology - such as our Real Blue NC. Small (invisible) microphones are built into the headphones, which perceive all outside noises. This ambient noise is processed by the headphone electronics, whereupon an anti-noise is generated. This additional sound generated exactly corresponds to the tones of the outside noise, but in the opposite phase length. The ambient sound is simply eliminated by a counter sound. This methodworks particularly well at low frequencies, such as booming engine noises, humming vehicles or noise. This means that noise-canceling headphones are particularly suitable for traveling on buses, trains and planes. The noise-canceling technique can also be used without music,

So that the microphones and the processing electronics can work in active noise-canceling headphones, a separate battery is always required, which can be recharged via USB, for example.
